An Giang (VNA) – The Mekong Delta province of An Giang has so far thisyear received some 7 million visitors, up 7.69 percent year on year andaccounting for 76.09 percent of the yearly plan.

Vice Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Pham The Trieusaid on June 14 that around 50,000 foreigners spent their holidays in thelocality, or 41.67 percent of the set plan.

Revenue from tourism services is estimated at 4 trillion VND (171 million USD),surging 25 percent from the same time last year.

To date, the province has 91 accommodation establishments for tourism,including one four-star hotel, five three-star hotels, ten two-star hotels and40 one-star hotels. It boasts 15 tourism sites, with renowned destinations likeNui Cam and Nui Sam.

This year, the province targets to earn 5.5 trillion VND from hosting 9.2million tourist arrivals, including 120,000 foreigners. It is aiming to receive10.1 million visitors in 2020.

In a bid to turn the tourism industry into an economic strength in theprovince, the local tourism sector has channeled focus on attracting capitalfor tourism infrastructure development in Chau Doc city and Tinh Bien and TriTon districts. Due attention has been paid to promoting tourism connection withother localities in the region like Can Tho, Ca Mau, Kien Giang, Bac Lieu, HauGiang and Soc Trang.

Director of the local Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen KhanhHiep said that the tourism sector is calling for investment to buildlarge-scale and modern entertainment centres together with branching outcatering services. Besides, it has introduced incentive policies on tourismdevelopment to lure more investments in the field.-VNA
