HCM City (VNA) – The Mekong AgricultureTechnology Challenge (MATch) was introduced in HCM City on November 16, aimingto support agricultural startups for the Mekong region’s agriculture to be turnedinto a more competitive and sustainable industry.

MATch is the latest in a series of innovationaccelerators by the Mekong Business Initiative (MBI) with funding and supportfrom the Australian Government and the Asian Development Bank (ADB). It looksfor innovative agribusiness startups and technological solution providers fromacross the globe to help transform the Mekong region’s agriculture industryinto a leading global supplier of “safe and nutritious food for all”.

It includes two challenges – the MATch StartupAccelerator and the MATch Market Access Accelerator. The first is aimed atinnovative early stage agritech startups and traditional agriculture businesseswith new, scalable business models in Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam. Thesecond will help mature international agritech companies expand intothe Mekong region. Participants will receive mentorship and assistance withtheir expansion plans including product adaptation, and forge relationships withpotential partners and investors in the region.

Thecompetition provides awards and prizes worth 200,000 USD in total, given viatechnical support and service provision. Award winners will also be introducedto and receive finance from strategic investors.

Running from August 4 to September 2, under the hashtag #TuHaoVietNam, the campaign invites participants in two categories: “I Love My Country” video clips and “I Love My Country” check-in photos.

With a tight 13-month deadline, the move is under a strategic and urgent policy to bridge educational gaps, train the local workforce, and shore up territorial sovereignty in some of the country’s most remote areas.
