Agencies urged to complete report on vehicle emission control

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MoNRE) has urged relevant agencies to quickly complete the report on the implementation of the roadmap to apply emission standards to motor vehicles.

Hanoi (VNS/VNA) - The Ministry of Natural Resources andEnvironment (MoNRE) has urged relevant agencies to quickly complete the reporton the implementation of the roadmap to apply emission standards to motorvehicles.

In the document sentto agencies, MoNRE asked the ministries of Transport, Industry and Trade,Science and Technology, Finance and Public Security to complete their reportbefore May 31.

The Ministry ofTransport is responsible for evaluating the implementation of the roadmap forthe application of emission standards for motor vehicles and difficulties inimplementation.

The agency is alsoresponsible for proposing the adjustment of the ongoing roadmap of emissionsstandards, tightening the emission standards, conversion and elimination ofmeans of transport using fossil fuels, or vehicles causing environmentalpollution and development of environmentally friendly vehicles.

It will assess thebuilding and implementation of national technical standards on emissions, thecapacity of registration establishments and quality assessment of exhaust gasesfrom motorcycles under the pilot programme on motorbike emission control in Hanoiand Ho Chi Minh City.

The Ministry ofIndustry and Trade will evaluate the capacity of manufacturers, importers andsuppliers of fuel used for motor vehicles in accordance with national technicalregulations and the roadmap for application of emission standards; report fuelstatistics data used for vehicles from 2008 to 2020 as well as difficulties inimplementation.

The Ministry ofScience and Technology will conduct an assessment on the application oftechnical standards on emissions and fuel for vehicles.

Meanwhile, theMinistry of Finance will report on the building and issuance of the emissionstesting fee for vehicles; financial mechanism to support fuel production andtrading enterprises; as well as statistics on the number of motor vehiclesimported from 2008.

The Ministry ofPublic Security will compile the annual registration of vehicles from 2008; thenumber of recovered and removed vehicles due to expired registrations;proposals and recommendations on the management of motor vehicles; as well asrevoke outdated vehicles./.

In 2019, Quang Ninh became one of the first localities in Vietnam to launch a province-wide campaign against plastic waste, mobilising the participation of the political system, the business sector, and the general public. Other localities—such as Hai Phong, Da Nang, Binh Duong, and Ho Chi Minh City—have also effectively implemented waste-sorting initiatives at source, along with models for plastic-free markets and urban areas.
