– Party General Secretary To Lam on December 19 asked the Party Central Committee's Office to strictly uphold regulations and procedures, ensuring the protection of state secrets, and preventing corruption, wastefulness, and other negative phenomena in every agency and unit, becoming an exemplary agency of the Party in all areas.

Addressing the office’s conference to review its performance in 2024 and sketch out tasks for 2025, the Party chief acknowledged and commended the efforts, dedication, and achievements of the office, emphasising that its activities have importantly contributed to this year’s overall accomplishments of the Party, armed forces, and people. – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh laid stress on the significance of the Vietnam International Defence Expo 2024 that carries the message of peace, cooperation and development while attending the event’s opening held in Hanoi on December 19.

The four-day event, spanning a total area of over 100,000 sq.m with both indoor and outdoor exhibition zones at Gia Lam Airport, draws more than 200 domestic and foreign exhibitors from 30 countries and territories worldwide, including China, France, India, Israel, the UK and the US. – The Hanoi city Police Investigation Agency on December 19 morning announced its decision to launch legal proceedings against a 51-year-old man to investigate and handle his act of setting fire to a café, which resulted in 11 fatalities in Bac Tu Liem district at night on December 18.

The man, residing in Dai Mach commune, Dong Anh district, was accused of murder. The suspect had two prior convictions for robbery and theft. Read full story

– Vietnam held the Philippines to a dramatic 1-1 draw in their ASEAN Cup group stage match which took place in the Philippines on December 18.

– Vietnam's total import-export turnover reached 745 billion USD as of December 14, marking a robust 15.3% growth compared to the same period in 2023, according to the General Department of Vietnam Customs.

Export revenues amounted to 384 billion USD, a nearly 14.5% increase, while imports value rose by 16.3% to approximately 361 billion USD. The trade surplus stood at 23.4 billion USD, down from 25.71 billion USD during the same period last year. Read full story

– The ASEAN Professional Engineer Registration Council of Vietnam under the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations (VUSTA) held a ceremony in Hanoi on December 18 to honour and award ASEAN Professional Engineer certificates to 77 Vietnamese engineers.
