A range of activities have been organised in Vietnam to mark the International Nelson Mandela Day, which falls on July 18.

One day prior to the date, the South African Embassy’s staff inVietnam and donors visited and presented gifts worth 75 million VND(roughly 3,400 USD) in total to poor patients being treated at theCentral Institute of Haematology and Blood Transfusion.

Previously, the embassy hosted a blood donation event with the participation of more than 100 people.

In November 2009, the UN General Assembly declared 18 July "NelsonMandela International Day" in recognition of the former South AfricanPresident’s contribution to the world’s peace, freedom and justice.-VNA

“I Love My Country” media campaign launched

Running from August 4 to September 2, under the hashtag #TuHaoVietNam, the campaign invites participants in two categories: “I Love My Country” video clips and “I Love My Country” check-in photos.

With a tight 13-month deadline, the move is under a strategic and urgent policy to bridge educational gaps, train the local workforce, and shore up territorial sovereignty in some of the country’s most remote areas.
