Accidents claim 183 lives during Tet holiday

As many as 22 people were killed and 19 others injured in 22 traffic accidents that occurred nationwide on February 10 (the sixth day of the Lunar New Year).

Hanoi (VNA) – As many as 22 people were killed and19 others injured in 22 traffic accidents that occurred nationwide on February10 (the sixth day of the Lunar New Year).

The Ministry of Public Security reported that during thenine-day holiday, 276 accidents claimed 183 lives and injured 241 others.

From February 2-8, 135 were dead and 189 others were injuredin 214 accidents, down 17.7 percent in the number of cases, 30.7 percent infatalities and 14.01 percent in the number of the wounded  as compared to the previous Tet holiday.

The average fatalities during Tet reached 20 cases per day,down 28 percent annually.

According to the Health Ministry’s Medical ServicesAdministration, over 45,600 cases underwent health check-ups and first aid dueto traffic accidents from February 2-9, accounting for 14.3 percent of thetotal. More than 16,600 of them were hospitalised and 187 dead.

Traffic police also dealt with more than 21,300 road safetyviolations, seizing nearly 4,000 vehicles and 2,900 driving licences.-VNA
