Fishing vessels in the southern province of Ben Tre have completed the installation of monitoring devices in line with regulations, as part of efforts to fight illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing as warned by the European Commission.

BenTre (VNA) – Fishing vessels in the southern province of Ben Tre havecompleted the installation of monitoring devices in line with regulations, aspart of efforts to fight illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing aswarned by the European Commission.

DeputyDirector of the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural DevelopmentNguyen Van Buoi said the department considers the effort as one of the topmajor tasks to combat IUU fishing.

Sofar, 98.8 percent of fishing vessels have been equipped with the devices. Theremaining stopped operations or went missing.

Thedepartment also worked with the provincial Department of Information andCommunications to issue a resolution on assisting fishermen in part ofsubscription fees for the devices in two years.

ViceChairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Minh Canh said authoritieswill continue raising fishermen’s awareness of regulations on exploitation ofaquatic products.

Theprovince will also dir🔥ect agencies concerned to promptly pr♉event individualsand organisations from bringing fishing vessels abroad for exploitation./.
