Thua Thien-Hue (VNA) – Nearly one million people in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue , or 82 percent of locals, have access to clean water provided by the Hue Water Supply and Construction Company (HueWACO).

The figure was revealed during a conference in Hue City on August 30 to conclude the Vietnam-Yokohama ( Japan ) safe water management project that helped HueWACO expand its facility to 30 factories and 35 pumping stations, increasing its capacity to 200,000 cubic metres of water per day.

By 2020, the province aims to build a smart and synchronic water supply system to 90 percent of locals, said Phan Ngoc Tho from the provincial People’s Committee.

Tho said that the province hopes for more cooperation and support from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the water sector of Yokohama and Japan to implement similar projects.

He vowed to support the Japanese side, especially in administrative procedures.

The Vietnam-Yokohama safe water management project was launched in February 2014 at a cost of more than 12 billion VND (537,840 USD) funded by the JICA. It focused on transferring Japanese water supply technology to waterꦅ companies in the central and southern provinces.-VNA
