Sydney (VNA) – The Vietnamese Consulate General in Sydney held a ceremony on September 17 to celebrate the 79th National Day of Vietnam (September 2), giving a panorama of the current Vietnam with dynamic integration and fast development.

The event was attended by about 500 guests, including officials of New South Wales state and Sydney city, representatives of other countries’ consulates in Sydney, along with experts, scholars, intellectuals, leaders of businesses and industries, and Vietnamese people in Australia.

In his remarks, Nguyen Dang Thang, Consul General in charge of New South Wales, Queensland, and South Australia states, highlighted Vietnam’s outstanding achievements in all aspects, from politics, economy, society to culture, over the past 79 years.

From a war-torn country, it is now a symbol of peace, stability, and hospitality, a trade and investment hub, and a destination preferred by international tourists. Vietnam has established itself as one of the top 40 economies and the top 20 in terms of trade turnover, as well as an important member of 16 free trade agreements covering 60 key economies worldwide.

The country has set up diplomatic ties with 193 states, along with strategic and comprehensive partnerships with 30, including all the permanent members of the United Nations Security Council. It is also an active member of more than 70 regional and international organisations.

Those enormous achievements are attributable to the Vietnamese people’s patriotism, solidarity, self-reliance, talent, and endeavours, as well as the sincere and effective assistance from friends around the globe, including Australia, he affirmed.

Regarding the Vietnam - Australia relations, Thang said when the two countries celebrated the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic ties in 2023, he expressed his belief that the attainments they have obtained for the last over half a century will provide a solid foundation for a brighter future of bilateral relations.

That belief soon came true in March 2024 as the Vietnamese and Australian Prime Ministers issued a statement on the upgrade of the relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership – Vietnam’s highest level of partnership with another country, the diplomat went on.

On this occasion, he thanked Australia for its timely and valuable aid for Vietnam to help settle the aftermath of Typhoon Yagi.

On behalf of New South Wales Premier Chris Minns, Michael John Daley, member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly and Attorney General of the Australian state, extended greetings on the National Day of Vietnam.

He voiced his delight at the flourishing, close-knit, and diverse relations, noting that Vietnam is assessed as one of the fastest growing economies in the region driven by export-oriented manufacturing, foreign direct investment, and soaring demand in both domestic and international markets.

🐬 Both countries share an aspiration for regional peace and prosperity, Daley added, stressing that they will stand shoulder to shoulder for the sake of peace and respect for international law./.
