Hanoi (VNA) – As many as 62,000 have gained access to information on climate change and disaster risks under a project financed by the Green Climate Fund through the UN Development Programme (UNDP).

According to UNDP Resident Representative in Vietnam Ramla Khalidi, the outcome, which was far higher than its set target of 20,000, has contributed to the capacity building in response to natural disasters for individuals, communities, and organisations, helping them better prepare for their response plans.

This was part of the project “Improving the Resilience of Vulnerable Coastal Communities to Climate Change Related Impacts in Vietnam” carried out in the northern province of Nam Dinh, the central provinces of Quang Binh, Thua Thien - Hue, Quang Nam, and Quang Ngai, and the southernmost province of Ca Mau from 2017 to July 2024.

Hundreds of training courses on outlining plans to evaluate disaster risks were arranged to improve the community's capacity, helping them integrate risk mitigation measures into planning and budgeting processes.

Also under the project, 24 disaster risk early warning systems were installed in the seven localities.

🔜 The UNDP said Vietnam is among the countries hard hit by extreme weather conditions caused by climate change. The country loses on average 1-1.5% of GDP annually to climate-related disasters./.
