Hanoi (VNA) - A 3.7 magnitude earthquake struck Kon Plong district in the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum at noon on March 6, causing no casualties or property damage.

According to the Centre for Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning under the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology’s Institute of Geophysics, the earthquake occurred at 12:50:24 pm at a depth of about 8.1km. The natural disaster risk level was rated as 0.

Previously, in the afternoon of March 2, two consecutive earthquakes with magnitudes of 3.0 and 3.2 also hit Kon Plong district at a depth of about 8-10 km. Fortunately, it caused no losses of life or property.

Director of the Institute of Geophysics Dr. Nguyen Xuan Anh noted that Kon Tum province, particularly Kon Plong district, lies within a minor fault zone where earthquakes typically do not exceed magnitude 5.0. The level of earthquakes in this area, although occurring frequently, has not reached the level of risk warning.

He recommended that when an earthquake occurs, people should hold on to a door frame or crawl under a table in a building with a solid structure. If they are staying outdoors, people should stay away from power lines and poles and run to an open area. If they are driving, people should try to pull over to the side of the road and stop./.
