The 17th ASEAN University Games (AUG 17) kicked off in Pelambang , Indonesia on December 10.
Theopening ceremony saw the presence of Indonesian Deputy Prime MinisterH.Muhammad Jusuf Kalla and other senior officials as well as about 3,000athletes and coaches from 11 ASEAN member nations.
Addressingthe event, the Indonesian Deputy PM expressed wish that AUG 17 will helpto further strengthen solidarity and mutual understanding among theregion’s students and young people for a more developing ASEANcommunity.
After a parade of the 11 delegations, the flame of theGames was lit up, representing the enthusiasm and strength of ASEANyouths.
Spectators at the event also enjoyed an imposing fireworkdisplay and unique art performances by thousands of Indonesian artists,actors and students.
AUG is held every two years by the ASEAN countries in rotation. This year’s event features 20 sports with 225 sets of medals.
The50-strong Vietnamese delegation will compete in six sports namely trackand field, swimming, table-tennis, Taekwondo, Karate and chess.
At AUG 16 held in Laos, Vietnam ranked second with 56 gold, 35 silver and 28 bronze medals.-VNA

The programme featured a range of activities, including group practice sessions of the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP), Vietnamese–Indian cultural performances, a commemorative flag handover ceremony for clubs, and a beach clean-up to help protect the marine environment.
This year’s tournament has gathered over 300 coaches, athletes, and referees from 18 countries and territories, competing in 28 combat weight categories and eight performance categories. Vietnam’s team has 50 athletes, including six from Thai Nguyen province.
It is the first time that the country is to hold a G1-level tournament which is expected to lure more than 100 athletes of 15 countries and regions at Go Vap Gymnasium.

The exhibition showcases more than 100 valuable documents and artifacts, divided into two main parts: “Journalist Nguyen Ai Quoc – Ho Chi Minh” and “President Ho Chi Minh – Founder and Mentor of Vietnamese Revolutionary Press.” This is an opportunity to recall the late leader’s journalism journey and affirm his exceptional role in founding and guiding the revolutionary press in Vietnam.
