15th Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Monument inaugurated in Cambodia

A Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Monument, was inaugurated in Serey Sophorn city of Banteay Meanchey, about 430km northwest of Cambodia’s Phnom Penh capital city on April 27.

Phnom Penh (VNA) – A Vietnam-Cambodia FriendshipMonument was inaugurated in Serey Sophorn city of Banteay Meanchey, about430km northwest of Cambodia’s Phnom Penh capital city on April 27.

This is the 15th monument completed under a project to build and upgrade 17Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Monuments across Cambodia. It is built in a nearly5,000 sq.m campus.

The inaugural ceremony drew StandingVice Chairman and Secretary General of the National Council of the SolidarityFront for the Development of Cambodian Motherland and Secretary of State at the Cambodian Ministry ofCults and Religions Nhem Valy; Vietnamese Consul General in Battambang provinceLe Tuan Khanh; Vietnamese Military Attaché in Cambodia Colonel Nguyen Thanh Chinh;leaders of local authorities and armed forces, students and locals in theprovince.

Addressing the event, Nhem Valy recalled the struggle of thearmy and people of Cambodia, with the support of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers,to overthrow the Pol Pot genocidal regime and revive Cambodia.

He underscored that Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Monumentsbuilt in many localities of Cambodia aim to remember the services of heroicmartyrs of Vietnam and Cambodia who laid down their lives for Cambodia’sliberation.

He expressed his deep gratitude towards the Party, State andpeople of Vietnam for sending eminent soldiers to help Cambodia escape the PolPot genocidal regime.

“Cambodian people always remember that without the January1, 1979 victory, we would not have today,” said Nhem Valy.

For his part, Colonel Nguyen Thanh Chinh stressed that the Vietnam-CambodiaFriendship Monuments across Cambodia and in Banteay Meanchey in particular willhelp younger generations to understand the value of peace and freedom as wellas the solidarity and mutual support between the two nations of Vietnam andCambodia.-VNA

Running from August 4 to September 2, under the hashtag #TuHaoVietNam, the campaign invites participants in two categories: “I Love My Country” video clips and “I Love My Country” check-in photos.
