Hanoi (VNA) – The 11th Party Congressof the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA) for the 2020-2025 tenure opened in Hanoi onSeptember 28.
Party General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong, whois the Secretary of the Central Military Commission, attended and delivered a speechat the event which has drawn 450 delegates representing over 26,000 Party membersin the VPA.
The congress was also attended by Politburo membersincluding Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and National Assembly ChairwomanNguyen Thi Kim Ngan, Party Central Committee members; along with a number offormer Party, State and NA leaders.
Opening the congress, General Ngo Xuan Lich, Politubromember, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission and DefenceMinister, said that all tasks and goals set in the resolution of the 10th VPAParty Congress have been completed or overfulfilled.
The Party organization of the VPA has maintained its purityand strength while upholding its leadership over all aspects of the armedforces, he said.
Amidst the complicated developments in the regional andworld situation, all officers and soldiers have stayed united with highconsensus, demonstrated absolute loyalty to the Party, State and people, and stayedready to receive and complete all assigned missions, firmly safeguarded thenational independence, sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity as well asa peaceful and stable environment for the national construction anddevelopment, said Gen. Lich.
He noted that the 11th Party Congress of the VPAis an important event, at which participants will review the five-yearimplementation of the resolution issued in the previous congress, while sketchingout orientations, goals and tasks to conduct defence-military tasks and Partybuilding in the next five years.
They will also assess the performance of leaders of the 10th Central Military Commission, while giving opinions on important draft documentsof the 13th National Party Congress and select delegates to the 13th National Party Congress.
In the morning session, delegates listened to a politicalreport of the Central Military Commission in the 2015-2020 period delivered by GeneralLuong Cuong, Secretary of the Party Central Committee and member of theStanding Board of the Central Military Commission and Chairman of the GeneralDepartment of Politics, before discussing the report./.
The army will develop a COVID-19 prevention and control plan based on a scenario for the outbreak at five levels in a bid to effectively deal with the epidemic, said Deputy Minister of National Defence Sen. Lieut. Gen. Tran Don.
