HCM City (VNA) – About 10,000 people areexpected to take part in the 2019 Run for the Heart race, an annual event tosupport disadvantaged children with congenital heart diseases.

The event, scheduled to take place in Hanoi on November 10and in HCM City on November 24, aims to raise funds that could save the livesof 180 young patients.

In addition to the road races, an online page has been launchedas part of the fundraiser, attracting over 1,500 people and donations worthmore than 200 million VND (8,602 USD) to date.

The event – an initiative of Heartbeat Vietnam, VinaCapitalFoundation’s health care programme – has been held six times, raising more than23 billion VND (1 million USD) and helping 900 children nationwide receive freeheart surgery.

It attracts an average of 10,000 to 15,000 participants everyyear.

According to a research conducted by VinaCapital Foundation,about 16,000 Vietnamese babies are born with congenital heart defects everyyear, of which 7,500 cases need medical intervention. The operations cost from50 to 250 million VND./.
